Njunjul has changed because at the start of the book he was messed up because of his experience with the police and then later he got even more messed up because of his relationship with Rhonda. At the end of the book he went to a school with his Uncle and told kids about aboriginal stories. The stories taught him about where he comes from and helped him to get over the bad things in his life. We know he changed because at the end of the book he hears Aunty Milly and the author finally reveals his name, which shows that Njunjul has overcome the bad things in his life to come out on top.

ever since he got beaten up by the police and that he has lacked in effort and at school and he has started to change by the drugs as well.

njunjul has learnt a lot about his culture and this is made him feel like he belongs and he has matured through the book because of this.
